How the Exxon Mobil Smart Card+™ credit card works
Where does the Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ work? Will I be able to use the credit card in the convenience store or at other partner or retail locations?
The Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ is a proprietary label credit card that can only be used at participating Exxon™ and Mobil™ stations. It can be used for fuel or car washes purchased at the pump or though the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app at most stations. It can also be used for snacks, drinks, fuel, car wash, and may other items purchased in the convenience store at most locations.
Every time you use your Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ to pay for fuel at an Exxon or Mobil station, you enjoy an instant-savings rollback, right at the pump! Save 12¢ on every gallon of our best fuel ever – Synergy Supreme+™ premium gasoline. Or, save 10¢ a gallon on any other grade of quality Synergy™ fuel.
If discounts at the pump are unavailable for any reason, you’ll receive the discounts as a statement credit. In that case, you won’t see a reduction in the price per gallon at the pump. The statement credits will be posted to your monthly billing statement automatically.
You can get 5% back on purchases at participating Exxon and Mobil stations on items such as snacks, drinks, car washes, and more – for your first $1,200 of non-fuel purchases per year. Excluded items include fuel, lottery, money orders, and gift cards.
The 5% earned on your first $1,200 of non-fuel purchases per year will be paid as a credit on your monthly Citi statement. It may take 1-2 billing cycles for the statement credit to appear with qualifying purchases.
Yes, Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ fuel savings combine with Albertsons for U, Safeway for U, ACME for U, Shaw’s for U, and Star Market for U discounts where available. For example, your 10 cents per gallon discount earned for every $100 spent at participating Albertsons, Safeway, ACME, Shaw’s, and Star Market grocery stores can be combined with the 10¢ or 12¢ per gallon instant savings on fuel at participating Exxon or Mobil locations.
Anyone can apply for Exxon Mobil Smart Card+. Applications are subject to credit approval. Account must be open and in good standing at all times to get the automatic savings.
Apply at smartcardplus.com or through the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app. During the application process, you will be directed to Citibank, the issuer of the card. Citibank uses one of the most secure encryption technologies available today. If approved*, Citi will mail you a physical credit card. If you applied through the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app and are approved, a digital credit card will be automatically added to your app so you can start paying with the Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ in the app right away. *Based on Citibank's credit card application approval.

If your application is approved, a plastic Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ will arrive in the mail a few weeks later. If you apply through the app, your card will be automatically loaded into your app upon approval for immediate use.

What is the difference between the old ExxonMobil™ Smart Card and the newer Exxon Mobil Smart Card+™?
On February 1st, 2022, ExxonMobil Smart Card benefits were enhanced and the program name transitioned to Exxon Mobil Smart Card+. Existing and new members started to get automatic savings right away – up to 12¢/gal instant savings rollback at the pump and a brand new benefit of 5% back via statement credit on the first $1,200 of non-fuel purchased per year, including drinks, snacks, car washes, and more at participating Exxon and Mobil stations. Existing Smart Card users don't need to re-apply for the Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ to get the enhanced automatic savings and may continue to use their existing ExxonMobil Smart Card until the new card arrives.
Cardholders who were approved prior to February 1, 2022 will receive a replacement card with the new card image and name a few months after February and can continue to use their existing ExxonMobil Smart Card until the new card arrives.
No. All cardholders that have the old ExxonMobil™ Smart Card as a payment method in the app may continue to use it in the app, as it remains valid for future purchases.
Exxon Mobil Rewards+™ and Exxon Mobil Smart Card+
No, if you use Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ as your payment method, you get instant price per gallon savings on fuel and a statement credit on qualifying in-store and car wash purchases instead of accumulating Exxon Mobil Rewards+ points. If you would like to earn Exxon Mobil Rewards+ points, please use a different payment method with your qualifying Exxon Mobil Rewards+ purchase.
Yes, you can redeem your eligible points balance while using your Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ as a payment method at participating Exxon and Mobil stations.
Do Exxon Mobil Rewards+ added benefits like Premium status, Frequent Filler, and AARP bonus points work with Exxon Mobil Smart Card+?
No, these are exclusive benefits within the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ points-based program. Beginning February 1, 2022, Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ benefits will not be combined with the benefits of the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ program. To keep your Premium status or Frequent Filler membership active, you can continue to make qualifying purchases using a different valid payment method.
Yes! You can upload your card into the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app for contactless payment. You will not earn Exxon Mobil Rewards+ points on purchases made with the Exxon Mobil Smart Card+. You cannot purchase convenience store items through the app at this time. To get 5% back on drinks, snacks and more in the store you will have to swipe your Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ at an eligible point of sale.
Launch the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app. Select "Account" from the lower right menu, then swipe-up to "Payment method" where you can add or edit a credit or debit card. You must pay with your Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ to get up to 12¢/gal instant savings rollback. If you pay with the Exxon Mobil Smart Card+, you will not earn Exxon Mobil Rewards+ points.
To get the Tobacco Program discounts at participating Exxon and Mobil locations, swipe your Exxon Mobil Rewards+ loyalty card or type in the phone number associated with your Exxon Mobil Rewards+ account before paying for your qualifying purchase. If using your Exxon Mobil Smart Card+ as the payment method, you will also earn a 5% back as a statement credit on your first $1,200 of non-fuel purchases per year.
