FAQs: COVID-19
What measures is ExxonMobil taking to reduce risk at the pump?
The health and safety of station employees, consumers and communities remain of the highest priority. We are asking station operators to more frequently clean and sanitize sites – from fuel nozzles to store countertops to door handles. When at the pump, we recommend using mobile payment through the Exxon Mobil Rewards+™ app to reduce contact with surfaces such as the PIN pad.
Is the Exxon or Mobil station near me going to remain open?
We are working with branded wholesalers and their dealers to keep sites operational and supplied with fuel during this period. Our highest priority is the safety of staff and consumers. While stations are following health recommendations from the CDC, WHO and local authorities, some stations may not be able to safely operate should staffing levels be impacted.
What are you doing to keep employees safe?
Station employees are providing critical services for our communities, working to keep stations stocked, clean and safe. ExxonMobil does not own or operate any retail fuel stations in the US, so station employees are employees of independent branded wholesalers or their dealers. Independent sites may employ different tactics, such as putting up plexiglass at cash registers or limiting the amount of people in the store. ExxonMobil is advising stations to follow all relevant health recommendations from the CDC, WHO and local authorities to keep people safe during this challenging time.
Are viruses/COVID-19 transferred via screens or the gas station pump?
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the virus is thought to spread mainly from person to person via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. While it may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. You can reduce your risk if you clean your hands frequently, cover your nose and mouth when coughing, and practice social distancing. As a preventative measure, we are also asking station operators to more frequently clean and sanitize sites – from fuel nozzles to store countertops to door handles. When at the pump, we recommend using mobile payment through the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app to reduce contact with surfaces such as the PIN pad.
Will my local store have cleaning products, milk and other essential items in stock?
We recognize that convenience stores represent a quick and easy resource for purchasing food and personal care items. While supply chains are being stretched, station operators are doing their best to have these products available for you. We encourage you to check with your local store.
