Product Description

AAMCO ATF Type F is a petroleum-base product with a high viscosity index and low pour point, which ensures quiet, smooth operation year round. It contains an effective anti-foaming agent, resists rust, has good anti-wear properties, is non-corrosive to metal parts, and will not attack rubber or other sealing materials. Good oxidation stability enables it to resist deterioration over long service periods.

Applications

The frictional characteristics of an automatic transmission fluid are an important factor in the design and operation of the transmission. All Ford transmissions built prior to 1977, and certain models that continued in use during 1977-1980, were designed for a high-friction fluid that allowed the shifting clutches to lock up or engage quickly. Ford specification ESW-M2C33-F covers this type of product, which is commonly referred to as "Type F" fluid. AAMCO ATF Type F is the appropriate product for these units.

These vehicles are identified as:
All 1976 and earlier Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models of cars, vans, and light trucks;
All 1977-1980 models having either ESW-M2C33-F or no number at all stamped on the transmission dipstick.

AAMCO ATF Type F is also recommended for automatic transmissions in certain older Toyota, Mazda, Volvo, and other imported vehicles that require an ESW-M2C33-F fluid. In addition, this type of ATF is specified for some Ford power steering systems.

AAMCO ATF Type F is recommended for both makeup and refill in power steering systems of the following Ford vehicles:
1980 and older Lincoln, Continental, and Mark;
1978 and older models of all other Ford cars, vans, and light trucks

AAMCO ATF Type F meets the anti-wear requirements of Sperry Vickers industrial hydraulic systems where low wear in the ASTM D 2882 vane pump test is the principal criterion.

AAMCO ATF Type F is not recommended for automatic transmissions in Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, American Motors, or any other cars requiring a Dexron-II, Dexron-IIE, Dexron-III or Mercon-approved fluid, or for those Ford products requiring an M2C138CJ
(Type CJ) fluid or an M2C166H (Type H) fluid. For the above applications, AAMCO ATF (Dexron/Mercon) is recommended.

Automatic transmissions should be checked for proper fluid levels at regular intervals, and the fluid should be changed at manufacturer- recommended intervals. However, this may vary due to your vehicles operating conditions. Some manufacturers recommend more frequent changes of transmission fluid under severe driving conditions, such as heavy traffic, hot weather and trailer pulling.

Health and Safety

Care should be taken to avoid skin contact when handling automatic transmission fluids, and to prevent splashing into eyes. A protective face shield, or splash goggles, should be worn when draining transmissions, especially on the service station lift.

Healthy skin condition depends on cleanliness. Oils and greases in contact with skin can result in plugging of sweat glands and hair follicles. This may lead to skin irritation or dermatitis. Therefore, protective gloves and clothing should be worn and good personal hygiene should always be practiced. Oils, greases, and other foreign materials should be removed from the skin promptly. Soiled clothing should not remain in contact with the skin. AAMCO ATF Type F is readily removed from the skin by waterless hand cleaners followed by washing with soap and water and a soft skin brush. It can be removed from clothing by dry-cleaning or by washing with laundry detergents.

Where repeated skin contact occurs, protective skin creams such as silicone-base creams, applied to clean hands prior to contact, may be beneficial.

If petroleum products contact the eyes, flush the eyes with fresh water until the irritation subsides.

WARNING: "Empty" containers retain residue (liquid and/or vapor) and can be dangerous. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose such containers to heat, flame, sparks, or other sources of ignition; they may explode and cause injury or death. Do not attempt to clean since residue is difficult to remove, and even a trace of remaining material constitutes an explosive hazard. "Empty" drums should be completely drained, properly bunged, and promptly returned to a drum reconditioner. All other containers should be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner and in accordance with governmental regulations.
