Product Description

FAXAM 22 is formulated specifically for once-through lubrication purposes. It is recommended for many bearings and similar parts operating at moderate temperatures and protected from moisture. FAXAM is not intended for circulating oil systems, compressor crankcases, or internal combustion engines.

Features and Benefits

  • Excellent general-purpose, once-through lubricant for non-critical requirements
  • Suitable for many specialty applications: leather, metalworking, and proprietary compounds
  • Relatively high viscosity index for machinery subject to temperature variations

Applications

FAXAM has moderate oxidation resistance for those industrial applications requiring an oil that is not recirculated. It has a relatively high viscosity index that makes it suitable for machinery subject to variations in operating temperature. It is an excellent general-purpose lubricant for hand-oiling applications oil cups, wick oilers, and bottle oilers. FAXAM is used on external bearing surfaces e.g., crossheads, etc., on steam engines and on the numerous bearings in an industrial plant that are not lubricated by some self-contained oiling system.

SPECIALTY APPLICATIONS
In addition to its applications as a lubricant, FAXAM finds many uses in specialty applications.

LEATHER  FAXAM 22 is useful as a leather oil. In tanning processes, petroleum oils are added to prevent the leather from hardening upon drying.

METALWORKING  FAXAM 22 can be used as a cutting oil for automatic screw machine operation when machining copper, bronze, brass, or other cuprous alloys. FAXAM 22 is widely used as a quenching oil in applications where a straight mineral oil is desired. FAXAM 22 is also used as basestock in the blending of cutting oils and flushing oils.

MOLDING  FAXAM 22 can be used as a mold oil in brick and cement block manufacture. FAXAM 22 has been used as a glass mold lubricant for many years.

PROPRIETARY COMPOUNDS
Compounds such as furniture polishes, floor oils, and sweeping compounds often contain FAXAM as part of their formulations. FAXAM 22 is also used as basestock in the blending of rust preventives and inhibited lubricating oils.

Health and Safety

Health studies have shown that many petroleum hydrocarbons pose potential human health risks that may vary form person to person. As a precaution, exposure to liquids and vapors of petroleum products should be minimized.

Oil and greases in contact with the skin can result in removal of skin oils and plugging of sweat glands and hair follicles. This can lead to skin irritation and dermatitis. Therefore, good personal hygiene should always be practiced. FAXAM 22 should be promptly removed from the skin. Soiled clothing should not remain in contact with the skin.

Oils and greases are readily removed from the skin by waterless hand cleaners, followed by washing with soap, water, and a soft skin brush. They can be removed from clothing by dry-cleaning or by washing with laundry detergents. Where repeated skin contact occurs, protective skin creams, such as silicone-base creams, applied to clean hands prior to contact may be beneficial.

If petroleum products contact the eyes, flush the eyes with fresh water until the irritation subsides.

WARNING: Empty containers retain residue (liquid and/or vapor) and can be dangerous. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose such containers to heat, flame, sparks, or other sources of ignition; they may explode and cause injury or death. Do not attempt to clean since residue is difficult to remove, and even a trace of remaining material constitutes an explosive hazard. Empty drums should be completely drained, properly bunged, and promptly returned to a drum reconditioner. All other containers should be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner and in accordance with governmental regulations.
