Product Description
FANOX N 33 is a specially compounded oil for metal-working applications. It is transparent and contains a mist suppressant to minimize fogging of the cutting oil in the workplace during high-speed machining operations.
FANOX N 33 is particularly suitable as a cutting oil for non-ferrous metals and as a drawing compound for both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Features and Benefits
- Transparent, non-staining
- Contains a mist suppressant
- Also effective for grinding, honing, and lapping applications
Applications
High-Speed Operations
In high-speed machining operations, most cutting oils of light viscosity present a serious fogging problem, which may create a health hazard and cause oil contamination of surrounding areas. Elimination of the problem usually requires a slow-down of production or elaborate mist removing systems. FANOX N 33, however, contains a special additive that minimizes the tendency of the oil to form droplets small enough to cause fogging.
Aluminum Machining
Because of its compounding and its lubricating qualities, FANOX N 33 is well suited for machining aluminum and aluminum alloys. Machining of softer grades of aluminum requires good lubrication to produce a smooth finish and to prevent build-up of chips on the tool. This is also true when machining aluminum alloys containing more than 5% silicon.
Magnesium Machining
Because FANOX N 33 has a low viscosity and is a fatty-compound cutting oil, it is recommended for machining of magnesium. Whereas aluminum can sometimes be machined using soluble cutting oils, magnesium cannot. Water intensifies the burning of magnesium chips, and magnesium should NEVER be cut with fluids that contain water. Fluids suitable for magnesium cutting operations must also provide good cooling properties, reduce the possibility of distortion, and provide adequate flushing of chips.
Copper and Copper Alloy Machining
The primary requisites for a coolant in the machining of copper and its alloys are that it provide sufficient lubricating properties and be non-staining, as provide ample cooling. Because it is manufactured from low-sulfur base oil, FANOX N 33 is suitable for machining copper and its alloys with a machinability rating of 30 to 60.
Grinding and Other Applications
Grinding operations, like cutting, require a fluid that provides good cooling and lubrication properties and produces a high degree of finish with minimum surface stress. Because surface speeds are high, the grinding fluid must be non-fogging. This has typically required an oil with a viscosity of 30 cSt at 40°C (150 SUS at 100°F) or higher. However, because of its fog-suppressing property, FANOX N 33, permits high-speed grinding without sacrificing the cooling and swarf removal ability associated with its light viscosity of 7.0 cSt at 40°C (50 SUS at 100°F).
FANOX N 33 is suitable for other lower-speed metal-working applications, such as honing and lapping of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It also can be used as a drawing compound for light-duty operations, such as wire drawing, cold stamping, forming, and tube bending.

Health and Safety
Health studies have shown that many petroleum hydrocarbons pose potential human health risks that may vary from person to person. As a precaution, exposure to liquids and vapors of petroleum products should be minimized.
Oils and greases in contact with skin can result in plugging of sweat glands and hair follicles, which can lead to skin irritation or dermatitis. Therefore, good personal hygiene should always be practiced. FANOX N 33 should be promptly removed from the skin. Soiled clothing should not remain in contact with the skin.
Oils and greases are readily removed from the skin by waterless hand cleaners followed by washing with soap, water, and a soft skin brush. They can be removed from clothing by dry-cleaning or by washing with laundry detergents. Where repeated skin contact occurs, protective skin creams, such as silicone-base creams, applied to clean hands prior to contact may be beneficial.
If petroleum products contact the eyes, flush the eyes with fresh water until the irritation subsides.
WARNING: "Empty" containers retain residue (liquid and/or vapor) and can be dangerous. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose such containers to heat, flame, sparks, or other sources of ignition; they may explode and cause injury or death. Do not attempt to clean since residue is difficult to remove, and even a trace of remaining material constitutes an explosive hazard. "Empty" drums should be completely drained, properly bunged, and promptly returned to a drum reconditioner. All other containers should be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner and in accordance with governmental regulations.
